🏔️ Day 1 – Glas Tulaichean & Walk to Camp
We begin with a steady ascent of Glas Tulaichean (1,051 m), gaining height gradually into open upland terrain. The summit offers wide-ranging views across the southern Cairngorms and sets the tone for a true high-level journey.
From the summit, we descend into increasingly remote ground, dropping toward the hidden basin that cradles Loch nan Eun. Along the way, your Mountain Leader will introduce key wild camping skills, including:
Pack fitting and weight management
Choosing a safe and discreet camp location
Navigation and mountain decision-making
Weather awareness
Leave No Trace principles
Once at the loch, we pitch camp in a stunning high-mountain setting. With tents established and packs lightened, the evening is spent preparing food, relaxing beside the water, and enjoying the quiet of the hills. On clear nights, this is a superb spot for stargazing in one of Scotland’s finest dark-sky areas. In the lighter months (May to July) perhaps a sunset ascent of another Munro?
🏔️ Day 2 – Gleann Taitneach Wilderness Exit
We will hopefully wake to a still mountain morning, sharing breakfast at the loch before breaking camp and carefully packing away our temporary home. Depending on conditions, we may want to bag another Munro before taking down camp.
The return journey follows the beautiful line of Gleann Taitneach, one of the Cairngorms’ quieter and more atmospheric glens. The route winds between granite slopes, open moorland and winding burns, offering a peaceful and reflective end to the journey.
We arrive back tired, fulfilled, and far richer in mountain confidence — having completed a true two-day mountain journey.
** As with all of our mountain adventures, we keep a certain amount of flexibility with our plan; it’s ultimately dependent on the weather and conditions. Rest assured that your experienced Mountain Leader will adapt a plan accordingly and explain their decision making process along the way.
