OUR STORY

About us

Hillgoers are an award-winning, family run business owned by Sarah & Garry Cormack, established in 2016. We live in Aberdeenshire alongside the beautiful River Dee in the Northeast of Scotland and operate throughout the country with the help from our excellent team of local guides and instructors.

We also own Wild Scottish Weddings too.

Our Team

We are super proud of our excellent team at Hillgoers. They are all highly qualified, have a vast experience of Scotland's wilderness and love to share their passion with you. You can read more about them below.

Our Services

Hillgoers offer a range of services for individuals and groups. These range from guided walks, summer, and winter skills courses to weddings!

We are also one of the largest providers for Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expeditions in Scotland, supporting hundreds of young people each year in achieving their awards.

Customer service, safety and sustainability underline everything we do. We are fully insured with Activities Industry Mutual, members of the Mountain Training Association, and are holders of the Adventure Activities Licence from the Health and Safety Executive. We are an Authorised Activity Provider for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and also a provider for the National Navigation Award Scheme.

Please browse our site for a full list of activities or contact our team to discuss your individual needs.

  • Sarah Cormack - Owner

Sarah joined the family business in 2020 and is the company’s Base Camp Administrator, the person you’re most likely to be in contact with or receive information from in the days before and after your Hillgoers event.

Sarah also acts as the emergency contact for Hillgoers activities.

Sarah has a keen interest in the outdoors and is very involved in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expedition & residential organisation, as well as being a DofE Assessor.

Sarah also runs our sister company, Wild Scottish Weddings, so if you would like to get married in the great outdoors please get in touch.

  • Garry Cormack - Owner

Lead guide and founder of Hillgoers, Garry Cormack, lives in Aberdeenshire. With the great outdoors literally a step away, he and his family spend much of their time exploring the surrounding terrain, seeking out the hidden treasures of Aberdeenshire and the Cairngorms National Park.

Garry has a passion for the hills and remote areas of the Cairngorms. He likes to wander, exploring the nature and human history of the landscape. He also loves to pass on his knowledge of the nature around us, be it up on a hill or just a walk in the woods.

  • Niall Ritchie - Technical Adviser

Niall was until recently, principal teacher of guidance at Banchory Academy, Aberdeenshire. He has visited some of the most interesting places to climb, ski and explore over the past 35 years, including the Alps, Alaska, Kenya, Iceland, Norway and Thailand. In addition, cragging trips to Mallorca, Red Rocks Nevada and Joshua Tree California. Although he says nowhere beats Scotland!

He is also a Mountain Bike Leader and previously a BCU Senior Instructor (Inland Kayak). Photography is also a great personal interest. He is holder of Summer and Winter Mountain Leader, Mountaineering Instructor Award (MIA) and Mountaineering Instructors Certificate (MIC).

Niall provides us with advice and guidance on all aspects of training, expeditions and adventures.
