LOCH MUICK - EVENING WALK

Discover Balmoral Estate’s Most Beautiful Loch at Golden Hour

Relax with transport from Ballater and expert local guiding

Join us for an evening walk at Loch Muick, when the crowds have thinned and the changing light brings a different feel to one of Royal Deeside’s best-loved landscapes.

After a scenic drive from Ballater, we start from the Spittal of Glen Muick and follow the easy track through native woodland towards the loch. Red deer are often seen in the area, particularly in the quieter hours of the evening.

The route follows the northern shore of Loch Muick beneath the slopes of Lochnagar, with plenty of opportunities to stop, take in the views and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. We continue to the old boathouse, crossing the River Muick at the outlet of the loch.

Evening is one of the best times to experience this glen. Depending on the season, you may see golden eagles overhead, hear stags calling during the autumn rut, or simply enjoy the soft light across the water and hills.

Our return takes us past Allt-na-giubhsaich, the lodge built for Queen Victoria, where she and Prince Albert spent time away from Balmoral. Throughout the walk, your guide will share the area’s wildlife, history and stories, making this much more than just a walk around the loch.
