WILD CAMP - BEINN A’ BHÙIRD & BEN AVON

Come on a wild camping trip with us into true Cairngorm wilderness!

About the trip

These munros are often combined in one mammoth day which is doable for the fit hillwalker but we believe this takes away from having time to appreciate the wilderness, history, wildlife and sheer scale of the area. We plan to take a more leisurely approach over two days which will include a wild camp on one of the high plateaus if conditions allow. This trip is a good introduction to multi day mountain walking.

We’ll take in wild and remote glens, view the steep cliffs and great corries of Beinn a' Bhùird and wander among the immense granite tors of Ben Avon, one of Scotland's biggest mountains. Maybe we’ll get the chance to see the red listed dotterel on the tabletop plateau of Beinn a' Bhùird or stumble across a quarried vein of Cairngorm Gem on Ben Avon!

Munros

Beinn a' Bhùird (1197m) - the table hill

Ben Avon (1171m) - from the river name - the bright one

The route and camp location will be weather dependent, having two days will allow us to get off the beaten track and really explore the area. Our main objective however is to summit both Munros.

You’ll need to bring your own camping gear which we can help with, we’ll give plenty of advice prior to the event.

Walk Grading

We’ll cover a variety of terrain, the approaches are mostly good path or stalkers track and the summit plateaus provide easy walking, which is plathless in places. There is a shallow river to cross if we decide to descend or ascend via Glen Quoich so a pair of Crocs or something similar will be useful.

Although being a Level 5 walk this is a good introduction to multi day mountain walking. Find out more about walk grading here.
