Responsible Outdoor Use
How to have fun outdoors while protecting our precious environment.
Leave No Trace
We expect everyone attending one of our events to follow Leave No Trace principles. This means taking all rubbish home with you. Leave nothing but footprints, and take nothing but photographs.

Toileting Outdoors
Leave no trace, and remember to bring your trowel! Watch this one minute video by VisitCairngorms to find out more.
Key points:
Find somewhere private, at least 30 meters from water sources.
For solid waste, dig a hole at least 6 inches deep. That’s about the length of most modern smartphones. Bury it with soil.
Do not bury toilet paper or sanitary items. Carry all your rubbish home.
Wild Camping
Wild camping is legal in Scotland, but all campers must follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code.
Camp in small numbers in small tents. Stay maximum 2-3 nights in one spot.
Don’t camp too close to crops, livestock, roads, or dwellings.
Never light fires, use a camping stove to cook food. The Scottish Government has approved a new by-law in the Cairngorms National Park which enforces no camp fires or barbecues, to reduce the risk of wildfires.
