A winter's day on Lochnagar

Going up Scotland’s mountains in winter on a glorious sunny day is truly magical. It’s hard to put into words how it feels to be up there on those type of days. There’s a sense of achievement, excitement, spiritual wellbeing and relief you’ve not slid off anything deadly! The last point is a bit of an exaggeration, with careful route planning and having the required skills, the risks can be managed but must be given respect.

Walking in winter usually comes after summer walking experience. We recommend attending a winter skills course before going out as it’s completely different to summer with significantly more risk. There are lots of good providers out there (including ourselves…:) who can help you gain the skills required.

I hope you enjoy this wee video of my recent trip up Lochnagar. If you’d like to go out in winter we can guide you or help you with a skills course.
