Derry Cairngorm and Loch Etchachan

This walk from Linn o’ Dee takes us to one of the hidden treasures of the Cairngorms, Loch Etchachan. For its size, it’s the highest loch in the UK at just over 920m. At this height and because it sits in a hollow, the loch can hold snow and ice well into the summer, a refreshing place to dip your toes! You will be in the safe hands of a qualified mountain leader who will point out interesting the features throughout your walk.

To reach here we will walk from the south, over the Munro, Derry Cairngorm (1155m). Views over the Cairngorm National Park are just stunning.

After achieving the Munro and visiting the loch, we’ll head down toward Hutchison Memorial Hut, a small bothy maintained by the great volunteers of the Mountain Bothy Association. From here we travel through beautiful Glen Derry. The native forest in this Glen is regenerating really well and this will be evident as we walk back towards Derry Lodge.
