Hill Skills Workshop - Braemar

An introduction to hill skills for beginners or those who need a refresh. Starts in the Braemar Caravan Park information room for an hour, then outside to practice the skills in the forests and hills around Braemar village. Limited to 8 spaces, aged 12+, under 18s to be accompanied by an adult. 

This course will cover the following:

  • Know the code
  • Understanding the maps
  • An intro to the compass
  • Navigation Strategies
  • Before you go procedures (weather, who to tell, etc)
  • What to take on the hill
  • Emergency on the hill
  • Levels of Navigation

After this session, it is recommended you attend one of our National Navigation Award Scheme courses to embed the skills further. No winter skills will be covered during this session. Intermediate coaching can be arranged too, contact us to discuss.

10am start at the Braemar Caravan Park information room, finished approximately 5pm. Possible optional walk up Morrone depending on weather and group.

Those attending from outside the caravan site will need to park their cars in the village as there is no parking on site. Limited to 8 spaces, discounted for park residents.
